The 2010 Offerton 10km

The Offerton 10km and Young Athletes' Mile took place on Wednesday 7th July and both were a great success.

The Young Athletes' Mile was won by Donnacha Maguire from Manchester Harriers in 5-54 with Stockport's James Porrot second in 6.04. First girl home was Stockport's Katy Whiteoak in 6-26.

Almost 200 runners took part in the 10km, and once again we got lots of great feedback about the organisation and atmosphere. David Hamilton from Southport Waterloo won the men's race and the ladies' race was won by Stockport's Ruth Jenyon with Stockport's Sarah Aylmer and Kerrie Wood-Doyle hot on her heels to make it a Stockport 1-2-3. Stockport also won the ladies' and men's team prizes and many of our athletes won vets prizes on the evening.

If you were one of the runners who took part, please visit runbritain.com and Claim your Ranking. Not only will you find out where you are ranked in the UK for the 10km distance this year, you could help Stockport Harriers win £1,000 for the race with the highest percentage of finishers who claim. The winner will be announced on 1 September. So please help us win some cash to improve future races at Stockport Harriers!

Well done to everyone who took part in the Offerton 10k and Young Athletes' Mile, and a huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped to make the evening so enjoyable for everyone involved.

The Stockport 10

Last year’s Stockport 10 was undoubtedly the best yet. The race sold out in advance and almost 700 runners took part on a gloriously sunny December morning. As usual, we got overwhelmingly positive feedback and according to Runner’s World’s event ratings, 97% of participants would run it again. There was great praise for the ‘usual high standards of organisation’ which was also described as ‘absolutely faultless at every stage’. Once again, runners appreciated the ‘very enthusiastic marshals’, ‘every one of them was full of claps and cheers’. And of course the ‘legendary goody bag’ and ‘fantastic T-shirt’ were also warmly received. More than one runner described it as ‘the best 10 mile race in the UK’.

The race was also praised for being welcoming to runners of all abilities and we were delighted to welcome a very wide range of runners from all over the North West and beyond.

This year the women’s course record was smashed by Justina Heslop of Clapham Chasers in 55:51, beating the previous record by over two minutes. First Stockport woman was Sarah Lomas, who finished in 1:03:25 coming sixth overall. Stockport’s Kerrie Wood-Doyle was first in the L40 category and Helen Todd was first in the L55 category. Stockport Harriers also won the women’s team prize.

won by Martin Williams of Tipton Harriers in 50:25. Tipton Harriers also took the men’s team prize with Stockport coming second. First Stockport man was Steve McLean in 56:21 who came sixth overall. Stockport’s Paul Payne won the V40 category.

Thanks to the popularity of the event we were able to make a substantial contribution to this year's nominated charity, The Seashell Trust, as well as boosting Stockport Harriers' club funds.

Well done to everyone who took part in the Stockport 10 and a huge thank you to all the many volunteers who gave up their time to help make this such a special event
