Harriers win selection for the English Schools

Ross Millington leads the field in the Greater Manchester School Cross Country Championships

A total of nine Stockport Harriers' members achieved selection for the Greater Manchester team that will be competing in the English Schools' Cross Country Championships on 12th March at Norwich.

In the Junior Girls' race Bryoney Pearce finished second, Lucy McLoughlin 3rd, Leah Kay 4th and Michelle Wiblin 5th.

Jessica Coulson was the Championship winner in the Inter Girls' race, Ross Millington finished 3rd and Stephen Pearson 5th in the Inter Boys.

In the senior races Ben Styles gained selection by finishing 8th while Claire McMurdock was 5th and Carley Davies 7th.

Elsewhere Steve Vernon made a return to racing on Saturday at the British Universities' Sports Association Long Course Cross Country Championships, finishing in an encouraging third place against a good class field. Fingers crossed he will make it to the trials on 5th March where he is competing in the 4km event, first 6 finishers will be selected for the World Championships.
