Jenny wins at Macclesfield with a course record

the macc ladies

First three finishers for Stockport, Vicky Barrett, Jenny Knass and Jenny Murray.

A high turnout of ladies from Stockport Harriers was led home by Jenny Murray in her last race before winding down for her Marathon in Nairobi representing Great Britain.

She led the ladies' race with Kate Burge from Stafford Harriers, but at 6 miles broke away and won the race with a personal best and the ladies' course record in 1-19.43, knocking 5 seconds off both her own previous best and the old course record, this bodes well for her Marathon.

Meanwhile the ever improving Jenny Knass also ran a personal best, knocking off 10 seconds her time at the Great North Run a fortnight earlier to finish 3rd in 1-25.31. Vicky Barrett had another fine performance with 1-30.13 to finish in 6th place.

Others from the club were Liz Bowden, 1-43 and Vicky Buckley a personal best with 1-50. Ruth Lee had run 9 miles before the race in her build up for her marathon in Spain, Jayne Lawton helped her through the 1/2m for them to run 1-53. Next was June Sinnott and Natalie Slack both with strong runs of 2-13 better then they did at the Great North.

Saturday October 8th will see a special start to the Stockport Harriers' Schools Cross Country Races. Schools from across Stockport will compete in the six race series which starts at 9.45am. The Lord Mayor who is opening the newly refurbished track will also be starting the first race, now in it's 30th year.

Senior Northern 6 Stage Relay Championships

The senior men's team were up against some strong opposition in the Northern Relay Championships at Blackpool's Stanley Park, finishing 38th out of over 80 teams.

With some of the club's strongest counters missing, it gave some of the club's younger talents a chance to experience a higher level of competition.

Driven on by the promise from Team Manager and Man City nut Paul Toole to wear a United shirt at training this week if they beat the seniors they all performed well, particularly Andy Nixon gaining 7 places on the last leg with the team's fastest time for the 5.1km twisting circuit.

Paul was last seen heading towards the United Superstore.
