Stockport 10 gets underway

The 2008 Thompson Brothers Stockport 10 took place on Sunday 7th December 2008 from Woodbank Stadium in Woodbank Park, Stockport.

The race started and finished at Woodbank Stadium with two challenging climbs at 5 and 8½miles along this undulating and testing course.

There were prizes for the first 10 males/females and all veteran categories plus the team awards, which went to the Harriers on both counts.

All finishers received one of our famous Goody Bags along with a technical t-shirt, which proved a great hit with everyone. Also many local businesses donated some fantastic spot prizes; the top prize being an overnight stay in a luxury apartment in Manchester won by Mark Cliff of Marple.

The date for next years race will be Sunday 13th December 2009, with entries opening in August.

Lloyds TSB Schools’ Cross Country League 2008/9

Entries are invited for the annual Stockport Harriers’ Lloyds TSB Schools’ Cross Country league at Woodbank Park Athletic Stadium. The six Saturday meetings take place monthly from September 2008 to February 2009 and junior school children between years 3 and 6 are welcome to enter.

The league usually welcomes around 20 primary school teams from around Stockport and the surrounding areas. Solo runners are also welcome. Young athletes must be under the supervision of a parent, carer or an adult approved by the school.

Girls and boys from years 3-4 run approximately 1,450 metres and girls and boys from years 5-6 run approximately 2,450 metres through the scenic Woodbank Park, which is also a lovely setting for spectators to enjoy the races.

The league entry fee is £7.50 per team. Individuals and teams of less than three athletes pay 50p per athlete per meeting.

Certificates will be awarded to the first ten finishers in each race at each meeting. The first three competitors overall in each league will receive medals commemorating their achievement and first three teams will each be awarded a plaque.

Maps, timetables and previous results will be on display in the clubhouse, where the event will be administered. Results will also be published on this website. Parking is available at the public car park behind Woodbank Community Centre, which is located at the eastern end of Turncroft Lane.

The league meetings will be held at 10.30am on the following Saturday mornings, subject to confirmation by Stockport Council.
